Finding ourselves in hot water!

Continuing on our roadtrip, we drove for hours along the east coast of the peninsula, stopping only for a dip at Hot Water Beach in Hahei. Talk about a mission! Only a tiny bit actually has hot water streams and the place was humming with tourists, many obnoxious and loud. Still, it was pretty trippy to sit in a natural hot bath with cold sea waves crashing in at high tide! And we managed to fit in a bickering session about the burning issue of whether my foot attire should be referred to as "flip flops" or "jandals". My main regret was that we didn't get to do the spectacular Cathedral Cove trail, one of my favourite walks in the history of ever, which Tali did a couple of years ago with her sis, Inbali. We just ran out of time so decided to leave it to the journey back, unaware that Mother Nature was going to wreck her wrath on us.

Hours were then spent winding along endless mountain roads across to Coromandel township. By this point, Tali was truly regretting that veggie pattie sub and starting to feel decidely dodgy. Despite glorious views, those crazy roads were starting to take their toll.

Tali's head felt fit to explode and her tummy was leaping out of her mouth - quite literally. In the end, she had to get DJ to pull over so she could spew red white and blue into a ditch. Naaasty! That pattie was particularly yucky coming up. We'll spare you the gory details.

By this point, all Tali wanted to do was just crash at the nearest motel and bugger the camping mission for the night! She had images of a hot shower, white, freshly laundered sheets and a warm bed. But DJ was determined to camp it up (oooh I say) and continued up a crazy gravel, unsealed road that went on forever.
