Cook me some eggs...

Entering Napier, we contacted our to see if he wanted to meet up. We were hoping he'd let us pitch up tent at his folks' place but politely texted him to see if he knew of any camp sites or cheap accommodation nearby. Unfortunately, he didn't pick up on the hint and instead called us to say he didn't know of anywhere, was extremely hung over and heading to bed (it was about 6pm). Thanks bud!

Filling up on Burger Wisconsins (or is it Burgers Wisconsin) and laughing like we were on crack (do crackheads laugh?), we scoured Napier, Hastings and Havelock North for accommodation. Not a sausage, apart from a tent spot at a craptastic holiday camp. Je ne crois pas.

Instead, we carried on driving down State Highway 2, looking for motel vacancies. Nada til we got to Dannevirke, which had a wild abundance of rooms. Hmmm, wonder why! Instead, we continued on through the Wairarapa, playing the "name that tune" game by channel surfing on the radio and drinking ridiculous amounts of V to stay awake. The scary-ass Rimutaka Hill Road was even more terrifying covered in fog but it was a pussycat compared to that nasty flooded gorge road we earlier took from Opotiki to Gisborne!

The rain brought a few rewards with it.
